ARTIST BIO
Emma McCormick Goodhart [EMG] is an artist, writer, researcher and dramaturge, who experiments across media, timescales and modes of practice. Staged as soft architectures, social ecologies and climate fictions, often more haptic than optic, her work attempts to retune the spaces that host it. Interested in how elasticities of timescale help expand notions of 'remote' sensing and long-distance listening, her case study for e-flux Architecture of Lascaux IV, a digital facsimile and "synthetic material fiction" that enables us to hear through 25,000-year-old sound, formed the basis for her sound and scent-based commissions in Hollow Earth: Art, Caves & The Subterranean Imaginary at Nottingham Contemporary (UK) and subsequent eau-de-parfum iteration as CAVE 0.
EDITION 0
The edition emerges from a 'scent climate' evolved by EMG and perfumer Barnabé Fillion from skin-contact macerations of cave waters, cicada nymph skins, manganese from Fort Stanton (New Mexico), microbial moonmilk deposits from Mondmilchloch, Mount Pilatus (Switzerland) and Tongass National Rainforest (Alaska), and other rare earth samples—in an ecopoetics of touch and timescale—decanted in July 2025 as a formulation to be body-worn, now available to purchase in an initial run of 500.
